The circle of life

To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under the sun. A time to be born and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted; a time to kill and a time to heal ... a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance ... a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to lose and a time to seek; a time to rend and a time to sew; a time to keep silent and a time to speak; a time to love and a time to hate; a time for war and a time for peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Congrats to Null and Britgal on the arrival of their new precious bundle of joy. Welcome to the world, little one. May your stay here be long and happy and filled with only good things.

My Grandma died Sunday night, after a short illness. She was 93, and had lived a happy long life filled with many good things. We are blessed that her final illness was brief and her passing was quick and peaceful, but we will miss her dreadfully. I am lucky and honoured to be able to say that I see a lot of her in myself, and that is a legacy I will carry proudly. She was the original Madame Librarian and a really, really cool lady. I remember when I was living in Denmark she would write me faithfully every week, and her letters were always just like sitting down and having a wonderful conversation with her. She was clever and witty and always had a great story to tell. In the last few years her body failed her bit by bit, but her mind remained sharp and clear to the end. My sister and I were able to get down Sunday afternoon to see her and say goodbye, and while she was no longer able to communicate with us she smiled at me and reached out her hand for me to hold and I know she knew I was there. I take comfort in that.

To everything there is a season.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandmother. I'm sure she will be missed and remebered by all who knew her.

I'm sending you virtual hugs.

It sounds like you were both able to say your goodbyes and not have to witness any suffering.

My deepest and warmest sympathies for your loss.
